About Rick Peterson

I am a commercial photographer and an explorer of photography’s potential. A graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography, I majored in Illustration Photography. I began my career working in my home town of Honolulu for over 25 years, shooting primarily for the hospitality industry. I’m presently living in Arizona where I shoot commercially with advertising, catalog and corporate clients.. My business is Peterson Productions. My home contains a photo studio on four acres of high Sonoran desert overlooking the Catalina Mountains where I live with my Jill and our pets – two Jellicle Cats and a Brown Dog. Sometimes we take road trips. We regularly go to Honolulu and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. We dream big and fancy ourselves as Dharma bums.

I believe in the value of having an artistic community, friendships and associations with others who have a shared interest and a passion for photography. I am a past chapter president of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) where I had the honor of connecting people with educational programs that developed into career advancements and enriching dialogues. It is in the spirit of these exchanges that I present this blog. I invite readers to contribute articles, comments or resources such as web links of interest.

My own interests lie in the many aspects of the art and business of photography. This blog will evolve and be dictated by my own ongoing thoughts and experiences along with those of the readers.

As I write this in October 2009, the so-called Digital Revolution of Photography is a memory. We are firmly entrenched in a world of digital cameras and solutions offering vast possibilities for creative photography, both in the commercial and fine arts world. Equipment, software and computers change and improve every week. While the trends continue to come and go, the fundamental things still apply. We will talk about these subjects here and their impact on our vision.
